How we use and protect your information

We know your privacy is top of mind for you, so it will always be top of mind for us. At Novi, it's our responsibility to clearly explain how we use and store your personal and financial information. We've created this article to help you understand how and why we collect, use, and share your data. If you want to learn more about our Privacy Policy, follow this link and select your country of residence.
As a regulated financial company from Facebook, Inc., Novi is designed to protect you and your personal information. We’re always working to keep Novi safe for everyone, reduce risk, and uphold our regulatory obligations. And we do not sell your data.
Why and how we collect your information
Much of the information Novi collects and uses is required so we can offer you our services and improve your experience, secure your account, help prevent fraud, and meet our regulatory obligations. Like other financial apps, we need to make sure everyone using Novi is who they say they are. Verifying your identity helps us provide Novi services, meet our financial regulatory obligations, and keep Novi secure.
So when you sign up for Novi, you’ll need to provide some information like your name, phone number, address, and date of birth. We’ll also need you to upload a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (for example, a passport or driver’s license). Documents you upload to Novi, including your ID, are encrypted and securely stored.
Novi collects your financial information to help you use the app. For example, we will ask for your card information so you can add money to your Novi account to send to friends or family, or your bank account information if you’d like to transfer money from your Novi account to your bank account.
In order to reduce risk and meet our regulatory obligations, we also collect information about your use of Novi such as the general location where you are using Novi and the devices you are on while you use Novi, including IP addresses.
How Facebook and Novi work together
Novi will only share information with other Facebook Companies to help us keep Novi safe for everyone, comply with the law, provide basic functionality, and allow Novi to advertise Novi’s services on Facebook. Even in these cases, Novi doesn’t share your information with Facebook for Facebook’s own advertising purposes.
You don’t need a Facebook account to sign up for Novi. But if you do have a Facebook account, we’ll use it to help keep you and others safe. This helps us:
  1. Verify the identity of our customers so we can make sure everyone is who they say they are. We might do this by checking to see if information you’ve shared with Facebook (like your phone number, profile photos, hometown or gender) is similar to the information you provided when you created your Novi account, such as your phone number and government ID.
  2. Comply with laws and prevent fraud and criminal activity so we can meet regulatory requirements and keep bad actors off Novi. For example, when someone has been banned on Facebook for high-risk violations, such as financial crime, sexual exploitation of children, or human trafficking, we can block them from using Novi. And to protect our customers from scams and keep transactions safe on Novi, we might check the relationship between you and the people you send and receive money with, using information from Facebook, such as common hometowns or schools.
  3. Reduce risks for Novi so Novi is safe for everyone. We may review information you provide to Novi, along with information from your Facebook account (like your date of birth, IP address, phone number) to limit Novi’s and your exposure to risky financial activity.
While we work with Facebook for these purposes, we have strict controls in place to limit what is shared with Facebook.
We'll only use information you share with Facebook when we feel confident it belongs to you and will help us with these above purposes.
Your Novi account is separate from your Facebook account, and your Novi activity is never posted to your Facebook profile. We might advertise to you on Facebook or Instagram, but Facebook doesn’t have access to your Novi customer information for its own advertising purposes.
How we work with Facebook and third-party payment services
We use Facebook systems and trusted third parties to help make Novi features and services work.
  • For example, Novi uses Facebook’s payment systems and works with payment services providers to help connect your card to your Novi account. This makes sure you can seamlessly transfer money into and out of your Novi account. Rather than passing your card details to Facebook, they are replaced with a series of randomly generated numbers so that Facebook cannot connect the information to you.
But we’ve set strict controls to limit what can be shared with Facebook and our payment providers. We only share the information needed to securely complete your transactions.
  • For example, in some countries, we work with cash-out agents so you can withdraw cash at their participating locations. We only share information required to help you get cash, including your legal name, date of birth, address, phone number, and withdraw code. In some cases, for compliance purposes, we may ask for and share additional details.
